Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how That AI Guy ("we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and protects your information when you use the That AI Guy iOS application.

1. Information we collect

Audio data

That AI Guy uses your iPhone's microphone to listen to conversations. Audio is captured in short segments and transcribed entirely on your device using Apple's built-in speech recognition (SFSpeechRecognizer). Audio is never transmitted anywhere — only the resulting text transcript is sent for analysis.

Transcribed text

Short text transcripts (maximum 600 characters per segment) are sent from your device for AI analysis. By default, the app uses our free relay service: transcripts are routed via our Cloudflare Worker to OpenRouter's API, which forwards them to the AI model. No transcript data is stored by us or by the relay at any point — processing is real time only. If you supply your own API key, transcripts are sent directly from your device to your chosen AI provider with no relay involved.

API key

The app works without an API key by default using our relay service. If you choose to supply your own key, it is stored exclusively in iOS Secure Storage on your device and is never transmitted to us. It is sent only to your chosen AI provider as part of direct API calls made by the app.

Names and keywords (Roasting feature)

The Roasting feature allows you to enter a person's name and optional descriptive keywords. This information is sent to your chosen AI provider for that session only. It is not retained by us, logged, or stored beyond the API call.

Usage data

We may collect anonymous usage statistics (such as session length and feature interactions) to improve the app. This data cannot be used to identify you.

Device information

We may collect basic device information (such as iOS version and device model) for debugging and compatibility purposes.

2. How we use your information

  • To generate real-time corrections, observations, and responses based on detected speech
  • To improve the accuracy and quality of the app
  • To diagnose technical issues

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing purposes.

3. Third-party services

By default, That AI Guy routes transcribed text through the following services:

Neither service stores transcript data. Processing is ephemeral and real time only.

If you supply your own API key, transcripts are sent directly from your device to your chosen AI provider, bypassing the relay entirely. Data sent to your provider is governed by their privacy policy.

4. Data retention

We retain no user data. Transcripts are processed in real time and are not stored by us at any point — neither via the relay nor via direct API calls. Our relay infrastructure (Cloudflare Workers) is stateless and ephemeral; no transcript data persists after a request completes. Your API key, if supplied, remains on your device in iOS Secure Storage until you delete it.

Anonymised usage analytics may be retained for up to 12 months.

5. Your rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Request correction or deletion of your data
  • Object to or restrict processing of your data
  • Withdraw consent at any time

You can revoke microphone access at any time via Settings > Privacy & Security > Microphone on your iPhone. You can delete all locally stored data (including your API key) using Delete All Data in the app's Settings.

6. Data security

All data transmission — whether via our relay or direct to your chosen provider — uses HTTPS. Our relay runs on Cloudflare's serverless infrastructure with no persistent storage. Your API key, if supplied, is stored in iOS Secure Storage (encrypted, sandboxed to this app) and never transmitted to us.

7. Children's privacy

That AI Guy is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
